Julian Hobbs

Hello, my name is Julian Hobbs! I am a 14-year-old student currently attending 8th grade at Forest Ridge Academy in Schererville, Indiana.

Being a journeyman of sorts, I have lived in both rural and urban areas alike. My exposure to a wide range of ideas and cultures has empowered me to become the young man I am today. I retain the propriety of southern etiquette. I have an appreciation for the diverse communities and customs I lived among during my time in Chicago's Hyde Park. Now as a midwesterner, I carry the small town charm and strong work ethic that makes this community so vibrant.

I am passionate about military history, athletics, public speaking, music and chess.

I hope you enjoying learning more about me from my website.

My Story

Who is

Julian?

I'm an adventurous young man who enjoys trying new things! I live with my Mom, Dad, little brother Sebastian, our dogs (Harper, Hemingway and Sparky), and my two cats (Blair and Bane).

As an enthusiastic learner, I seek new and challenging opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. My favorite subject is History. This fondness has carried over outside the classroom as I'm an avid collector of historical military artifacts. I have a special fondness for military helmets.  I love to learn about the reasons headwear was designed and how they evolved from the Civil War to today's intricate military helmet.

My Academic Life

I am an enthusiastic learner of life and a driven student of academics. During my scholastic career I have developed many skills and attributes that have led to my academic excellence. These skills and attributes include leadership, a strong work ethic, collaboration, efficiency and time management, and the ability to share my knowledge effectively with my peers. I am the only current student in my very rigorous school to achieve the "All A" Honor Roll for the duration of their middle school career. My teachers commend my strong academic excellence and in-class leadership. During the school year, I help younger students hone their reading ability and mathematical skills through our mentoring program. I am appointed as team leader on projects. I tested to the equivalent of a college freshman on the standardized Iowa testing as a 7th grader. My strongest attribute however, maybe my skills as a public speaker. Most recently I was recognized at Deerfield Academy for my debate skills and speech on the behavior of private and public schools during their summer program.

Aside from the aforementioned attributes, I’m also self-reflective, sociable, confident yet humble, kind, and empathetic. I am not afraid to take risks (reasonable ones of course!) and I strive to seize every day. I take pride in my work, as I know it is a direct reflection of me. I also take pride in the positive influence I have had on my fellow classmates, helping them to elevate their own academic capabilities through guidance and mentoring in the classroom.I have received many acknowledgements as a leader and teacher of my peers, receiving recognition from Forest Ridge Academy, Culver Academy, and Deerfield Academy during my academic and summer program career.

I want to bring my vibrant character, inquisitive mind, and motivated spirit to your school and become a successful contributor to your schools long line of storied success.

Interests

Interests

Favorite Book

1984 by George Orwell

- I love this book because it gives a good example of what the world would look like in a totalitarianism society or where the government has all control. It also portrays the themes of manipulation, political control, and individualism.

Favorite Song

White Horse - Chris Stapleton

- I enjoy listening to this song because i'm from Kentucky and I enjoy country music but the tone and beat on this song always puts me in a good mood.

Favorite Movie

Halloween - John Carpenter

- I love this movie because when I was young me and my dad used to watch horror movies together and he got me hooked on the franchise I also love the story line and how all the other movies tie back into the original one that started it all.

Favorite Food

Japanese A5 Wagyu

- I love this food because I tried it once at a place called Nobu in Cabo San Lucas in Mexico. I was thrilled to see they had it on the menu and when I finally got it and tried the first but it was like fireworks going off in my mouth. The steak melted on my tongue like butter and it was the best steak I've ever had.

Volunteering

Cancer Fundraiser, Northwest Health Valparaiso, IN 2024-Current
When I was 8 years-old, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was with her during her treatment and recovery. I watched how hard it was for her and what she went through. This has inspired me to help cancer patients where we live. I am raising money to build a patient library and to fund resources for patients, as many people do not have access to libraries or even the internet where we live.

Food Drive, Hilltop Food Pantry (Valparaiso, IN) 2023
Co-lead a food drive at my school for a local food pantry. Created flyers and communication for school families and spoke on the morning announcements during the food drive to get the word out. Hand delivered donations to the food pantry.

Project Day, Forest Ridge Academy 2021-Current
Every year at school we dedicate a day to giving back. We collect non-perishable foods, items for the homeless, items for shelters and every year have a couple of local organizations we give work with to help out however we can.

Ambassador Program, Forest Ridge Academy 2022-Current
Mentoring program to help bring excitement to the younger students in the subjects of reading, math and science. Each year I have one student that I build a relationship with all school year.
